PADDLE BOARD TASTER SESSION
This one hour course will give you a solid understanding of stand up paddle. It is aimed at people who have never used a paddle board before, people who have tried paddle boarding without instruction and now want to learn the basics and children.
Learning to paddle board (also known as paddle surf) is a fast and fun process and is done with a qualified instructor (BSUPA - British Stand Up Paddle Association). The course structure is designed to give you all the information you need, to get on the water safely, have fun and learn the techniques, which will provide you with the skills you need to progress your enjoyment on your own.
During the course you will be given an introduction on different paddling techniques, different types of turns, self rescue and how to fall safely.
What will you learn?
Weather and Environment - The first part of your lesson will be about the weather. It will include what to look out for when planning your time on the water, using weather apps, weather forecasts and what to look for when you are on the water, in terms of quickly changing weather conditions.
Know your kit - We will go through the equipment you will need, why you need it, how to look after it and best practices.
SUP Skills - A short land based lesson will demonstrate the different positions and manoeuvres that you would typically need to know when paddle boarding. You will learn how to carry your board correctly, so that you don't hurt yourself or others. Finally you will get a chance to practice everything you have learnt on land - as we head out to sea. The four main techniques you will learn are:
- The prone position (also known as the rescue position)
- Kneeling, paddling and turning
- Standing, paddling and turning
- How to fall safely
