Why use a fin cover?
ACCIDENTAL INJURY – Fins are very sharp, and we would always recommend removing the fin when carrying your board or leaving it unattended and unused. If however you find this an inconvenience, then this reduces impact injuries to (mainly) legs.
PREVENTS BREAKAGE – The centre fin is an integral piece of kit for paddle boarding. So it stands to reason that you should be taking good care. Its easy for fins to get scratched and broken, which – although, depending on level of damage wont directly lead to a difference in your performance on the water, may lead to long term damage.
UV DAMAGE – The sun and salt water is a very damaging combination with any equipment used in the sea. UV light can be particularly unkind to hard plastics.
UV light can cause plastic to become brittle, chalky, and potentially cracked or even completely disintegrate.
Exposure to UV can lead to yellowing, fading, and other color shifts in plastic materials.
UV radiation can weaken plastic, making it more susceptible to breakage or deformation.
In addition to the practical side of fin covers …. we think they look pretty cool! But we will leave that for you to decide!
