It feels like a lifetime ago that I created my own SUP brand whilst living in Brighton – on the UK’s wild South Coast. The concept was born back in 2017, and I learned so much during that time — lessons, knowledge and experience, that have carried me through to where I am today.
Red Snapper Sports was my baby… a true journey of discovery. Would I want my own brand again? Absolutely not!
There are so many incredible companies out there already doing it right, and we’re lucky to represent two of them – Moai Boards from The Netherlands and Fatstick Boards from the UK. So if you’re giving yourself the gift of paddle boarding in 2026, here’s a quick starter guide to what to look for when buying your first board:
• Reputation — Check customer reviews on platforms like Trustpilot. It isn’t just about the purchase — it’s about how the company looks after you afterwards. Great customer service speaks volumesWarranty — If a company is offering three, four, five years (or more), it’s because they have confidence in their product
• Price — Don’t be seduced by cheap offers. Boards are cheap for one reason: poor quality and poor construction — which ultimately means a poor riding experience
• Find the right board for YOU —Are you a recreational paddler or an adventurer? Will you be on lakes, rivers, or the sea? It’s not a “one board fits all” hobby.
And don’t forget about appropriate clothing for your new passion — more on that next week! But before any of this… invest in your health and safety with a lesson (or three!) A qualified instructor will have a wealth of knowledge on all of the above — and it may just save your life!
